As much as we hate sharing heartbreaking news, we want to inform you all with the deepest sadness that little Ginger has gained her Angel wings. She left this earth on her own terms, in her Sanctuary mom’s arms, peacefully; knowing kindness, compassion, love and dignity.
There is a belief that animals plan their passing in advance – they put events in motion to make sure who will be there, or not, where, and when it will take place, and how it happens.
For Ginger, she waited until everyone was sleeping, she came over, asked to be picked up, enjoyed snuggle time, and took her last breath. This was not something that was unexpected, but the timing was random – it must have just been her time.
We are completely shattered, and know you all share this devastating loss with us.
She danced her way into everyone’s hearts here at the Sanctuary the moment she entered our doors in April of 2021, and outlived her life expectancy for a senior dog with her medical issues including acquired hydrocephalus. She was our “Sassy New Arrival” who had such a zest for life that was unmatched and why we named her Ginger.
Every dog that comes here to our Sanctuary brings something special with them, they too have a purpose just as we do, and Ginger filled a very vital role here at our Sanctuary, one that had been left vacant by another tiny soul that came before her – “the secretary”. She was a working Chihuahua who would sit by the computer while posts and featured articles were written, helped when bills needed to be paid and even supervised the ordering and preparations of food, treats, blankets and toys. She never missed a day and was always right by Sanctuary moms side.
She was very intelligent and had us all wrapped around her little paws – that plus her larger head earned her the nickname “The Brain”. Who could ever say no to that face? Those eyes, her personality; most certainly not us! But what we never understood was why someone somewhere out there thought she had no value and literally threw her out on to the streets like a piece of trash. All she ever wanted. To be loved – and we did just that.
Her life mattered, and since the day we rescued her from the shelter, she never for one moment stopped showing us her gratitude in return. It was as if she was truly meant to be here with us and she loved with her whole heart – you could literally feel it!
Ginger loved wrapping herself in a blanket and snuggling, sunbathing with her ladies group of Chihuahua friends, and would super glue herself to people’s ankles.
She adored her food and treats so much so she would do a little happy dance for them. The excitement she had for everything was so adorable to watch; she truly knew how to enjoy life in her golden years to the fullest.
She was always the first to greet visitors, and the first to greet the new dogs when they arrived. Ginger may have been one of the smallest in size, but her personality was larger than life. She had a wonderful effect on both people and other dogs alike. We could write forever about her because there are simply so many great memories to share, but it would literally fill books. This tiny beautiful little soul has left behind a massive hole in many hearts – words are just not enough.
To say we are heartbroken would be an understatement. Nothing will ever be the same here at Paws Give Me Purpose without her; there is a huge cloud of sadness over the Sanctuary as Ginger’s doggie friends are also mourning her loss.
You will always live on in our hearts Brain – you were taken way too soon. We were blessed to have known and been able to love you with our whole hearts!
We would like to acknowledge Ginger’s generous sponsor for assisting us with her care and helping give us the ability to provide her with everything she needed and then some. On behalf of little Ginger, we thank you from the bottom of her little heart and ours. It is supporters like yourselves that are the driving force behind what we do.
Thank you to each and everyone of you for caring, for being a support to us during this time and for being a part of the best days of Ginger’s life!
