It is with the deepest sadness that we share that everyone’s beautiful friend Elmo has gained his Angel wings. He passed peacefully, in his sleep surrounded by all the other dogs who loved him.
Although we are shattered by his loss, we know Elmo came to our Sanctuary for a reason – to fulfill his own purpose in life of being there for others.
Elmo arrived at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary back in September of 2022; his prognosis seemed grim but he did not for one second allow his cancer to take away from his zest for life. This beautiful soul defied the odds every day and while his medical issues were serious, he never allowed anything to bother him. You’d never have known he wasn’t 100% healthy.
He put all his dog friends first, cuddling them when they weren’t feeling well, even laying with a few as they left this world – he knew. He was also the only dog to ever befriend dogs who really didn’t care for other dogs – this made him more special. And when he was around, a couple of our more behaviorally challenged seniors were calmer and more relaxed by his side. There was just something about Elmo that made them feel better and now they miss him like crazy; most especially his buddy Jimmy.
Elmo was also a fabulous office assistant, a good friend to all the humans here and every person who walked through our doors; a lap favorite helping us destress during the craziest of times.
His favorite thing in the world was simply being there for everyone, human and dog alike, and boy did he love freeze dried liver snacks and bully sticks. Although he was a picky eater with meals he truly loved his treats and we of course indulged him – he deserved it!
They say dogs have senses that humans don’t have, and Elmo would look up at us with his bright, happy eyes trying to cheer us up when we were down and it would work. Elmo simply had the capability to fix any sadness by licking our faces and cuddling up next to us.
Nothing here at the Sanctuary will ever be the same without everyone’s best friend Elmo, for every single dog that walks through our door is special; Elmo filled a vital role here at the Sanctuary that no one can replace. Elmo’s memory will always be a big part of our hearts and live on within our Sanctuary walls forever.
Thank you Elmo for allowing us to love you with our whole hearts. We miss your presence and thank you for being our friend.
