Remembering Casper

“ANGELS ARE OFTEN DISGUISED AS DOGS

As much as we hate sharing heartbreaking news, it is with the deepest sadness that we inform you all our handsome Casper has passed away. He left this earth on his own terms, peacefully, in his sleep; he knew nothing but kindness, compassion, love and dignity.

Casper’s passing was not something that was unexpected, but that did not make it less difficult. He stole the hearts of many the moment he entered our Sanctuary doors and outlived his 6-month life expectancy prognosis for a dog with cancer – he had over 2 very wonderful years here at PGMP Sanctuary.

Casper entered our Sanctuary doors back in November of 2021. He was deaf and had been surrendered to a shelter in Maryland with a baseball sized mass on the back of his neck; his previous family “didn’t want to deal with cancer”. Once removed, the biopsy unfortunately determined the diagnosis was cancer – but his life mattered and we gave him his best life daily every day that he was with us.

Casper was truly one of the sweetest dogs to enter our Sanctuary. He was truly an Angel in a dog’s body. He was very well mannered, friendly and all the dogs loved him. There wasn’t a day that went by where he didn’t do a literal little dance. He would get so excited about everything, most especially food and treats, that he would dance around with excitement. We could go on and on about this precious boy’s wonderfulness – he was simply just that special.

His nicknames here at the Sanctuary were Mr. Polar and Mr. Nuggets. Both terms of endearment that just grew out of his love for us and his love of chicken nuggets. Being a white Pekingese that loved to cuddle and snuggle his people – like a white teddy bear/polar bear earning him the Mr. Polar title. He could feel when we were having a bad, sad, or stressful day and was right there offering hugs and cuddles to make everything better; and believe us, it did.

Mr. Nuggets came about soon after he arrived, evidently fast food was his only menu and he was extremely overweight. We worked hard at helping him to drop those pounds and he did. In order to transition him to healthy foods, we started out by baking him our own version of chicken nuggets which quickly became his favorite snack.

And we simply cannot forget to share about how much Casper enjoyed parties! Most especially celebrating Birthdays – Casper celebrated 2 Birthdays here in Sanctuary, and his favorite part… the cupcakes. The happiness on this boy’s face will forever be engraved in our hearts and minds.

Nothing will ever be the same here at Paws Give Me Purpose without Casper, as each dog that comes through our door brings us something special. We are completely shattered by his loss, and know that you all share this devastating loss with us.

You will always live on in our hearts Mr. Polar; you were taken way too soon. We were blessed to have known and been able to love you with our whole hearts!

We would like to acknowledge Casper’s generous sponsor, Christina. Thank you for noticing Casper and becoming his sponsor. Thank you for assisting us with his care, helping give us the ability to provide him with everything he needed and for spoiling him a little bit more during his final months with your beautiful and thoughtful gifts – we can assure you he felt your love too.

On behalf of Casper, we thank you from the bottom of his heart and all of ours here at the sanctuary. It is supporters like yourself that are the driving force behind what we do.

Thank you to all of our followers and supporters for caring and for being a support to us during this difficult time.
