The month of February was an extremely busy one for us here at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary- we had 7 new intakes! Please bear with us as we try to catch up on introducing them all to you.
Meet Max! He was surrendered to the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter in the most neglected condition (shelter intake photos in comments) so much so, he did not even look like the same dog! We have been told by a shelter volunteer that he smelled so badly that you could literally smell the stench through closed doors into the next room.
Max was very sick and as it turned out along with some other senior medical conditions, he suffered from a serious case of Pancreatitis. He received the urgent medical care he needed and deserved and was pulled by one of our rescue partner Remember Me Rescue NY.
The original plan was to get Max healthy and ready for adoption, but it soon became clear that he would be an extremely difficult dog to adopt out so it was decided that Max needed Sanctuary.
Max is not the lap Yorkie everyone wants him to be, while he most certainly is cute, he is not cuddly and at 12 years of age we do not expect that he will change.
Max prefers things on his own terms, is a guarder – of everything and can become quite nasty when he doesn’t get his way. He’s not a fan of sharing anything with anyone, human or dog, and requires some serious medical and behavioral management.
To date, we have been able to get him to tolerate other dogs being in his area, however he must eat his meals separately, and is not permitted on any human furniture since he can become extremely possessive and will react badly if anyone attempts to get close or remove him.
He really prefers to keep to himself and that’s ok; we can only imagine what he must have gone through in his life and it breaks our hearts.
He will be spending his remaining golden years here at PGMP, and we are turning to our wonderful supporters in order to ensure Max has everything he needs to live his life to the fullest – including his medications and a strict prescription diet.
With our medical bills climbing, and donations barely trickling in, we have had to ask ourselves how much longer we can help give the abused, neglected and the most unwanted souls a life; a chance to be loved – we truly cannot continue to do what we do without YOU!
Please consider making a donation, becoming a Sponsor or a Guardian Angel to our Sanctuary – these lives matter too.
