Doing The Right Thing

Doing the right thing may not always be popular, but it is important to us!

We have taken a lot of criticism since the day we rescued this beautiful girl; we have been told to “put her out of her misery” and even accused of using her as a “poster child” to extort funds from the public. This is most certainly NOT the case!

Paws Give Me Purpose did everything possible to save Lucy’s eyes, but the long term damage caused by her former owners was just causing her extreme and unnecessary pain.

Above all else, we at Paws Give Me Purpose put quality of life first, and we could not let Lucy suffer. Enucleation of Lucy’s eyes was the treatment of last resort, when all previous attempts to salvage her eyes have failed.

For those not familiar, Lucy arrived at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary back in September after having being dumped at a shelter, severely neglected at 16 years of age. Her main medical issue was that she was blind, her eyes were damaged and diseased from years of neglect with severe glaucoma.

Her eye pressure was too high and was not controllable with medication and was causing her immense pain. In the case of glaucoma the pain is often comparable to having chronic migraines.

Lucy came to us because no one else stepped up to help her during her time of need. For 16, Lucy has lots of pep in her step and deserves this second chance to be happy, loved and cherished.

Our promise to Lucy is to provide a safe and loving environment for the rest of her life. If anyone ever doubts us, know that this is what we do at Paws Give Me Purpose.

We ask that you please consider making a donation to help us with Lucy’s care. If anyone is interested in sponsoring Lucy’s lifetime care in Sanctuary, please reach out to us directly.
