Blossom’s Voice

Hi, it’s Blossom, one of the Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary residents. I have been living here in sanctuary for most of my life and am extremely grateful to have this chance. My story is pretty lengthy so I am just sharing the important things I want you to know.

For those of you who don’t know my story, I was a neglected and abused dog rescued from a Georgia shelter. I was labeled aggressive, untrainable, and sentenced to death.

I arrived at Paws Give Me Purpose hating all humans and animals of every kind. I was shut down and hid in the corner of my room for 2 weeks. I wouldn’t come out to even eat or drink until it was dark and no one was around. In fact, the people here were told to give up on me because I could not be helped. I do admit, I caused a lot of trouble, and am still a handful behavior wise, but Paws Give Me Purpose never gave up on me.

In addition to trust issues, I am a very fearful dog who responds badly to what I see as scary situations. Just being transported into rescue, I escaped and ran away into a swamp, and I still won’t get near or in any vehicle willingly.

Random sounds and quick movements set me off, I used to see a leash come out to take another dog for a walk and I would urinate right where I stood out of fear. Often, I would lash out and attack another dog if something spooked me, but again, Paws Give Me Purpose did not give up on me; they must really love me.

One of the most important things I have learned is that I am NOT an aggressive dog — I am just a sensitive dog. My horrible past has left me with mental scars that causes me to associate being surrounded by certain actions, or hearing certain sounds with bad memories.

Due to my inability to adjust to change like other dogs it was decided that it was in my best interest to live here in sanctuary. People who had never met me and knew nothing about me told the staff here that they should “humanely euthanize” me and move on, but Paws Give Me Purpose never gave up on me, and I will never give up on them.

There is an outside world of noise and strangers and thanks to Paws Give Me Purpose, I have a home, and the help I need. I live in sanctuary and have learned to trust. I have learned that humans can love, and I have learned to love dogs too, although I am extremely selective. I have bonded very closely with just one dog here, wherever she goes, I go.

For the first time in my life I feel safe and loved. I am alive today because of the wonderful supporters like you! Because of you, I receive expert medical care, receive behavioral help, and have a place to live where I am safe, people love me and treat me with kindness. I have truly regained faith in humans, and although I will never love every dog or person I meet, I have learned how to control my inappropriate behaviors.

I am told every day that I am loved, no matter what bad thing I do. I have been told by the people here that they can see the beauty of my soul and that life has been put back into my eyes when clearly I had given up. The sheer bliss on my face that they see every day is indescribable and has made the struggle with me worth it!

My story is just a glimpse into the kind of things they do here at Paws Give Me Purpose. I want you to know where your generous financial, food, bedding, toys, chews; all your donations are going. Please consider making a donation in order to help Paws Give Me Purpose continue to give myself and the rest of the Sanctuary pups the best life ever.

Help them continue their great work so they can help more pups just like me who are unwanted and need a special place to live out their days feeling safe and loved.

Love, Blossom

Birthday Message From Lazarus

Hello everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Lazarus and I am one of the senior residents here at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary. I’m just stopping in to say hello and let you know how I’m doing.

Today I am celebrating my 8th Birthday! Paws Give Me Purpose has told me they have wonderful surprises in store for me today, including delicious cupcakes!

Until my arrival at Paws Give Me Purpose, my life was a very difficult one; I actually lived outside in a cage with many other Boston Terriers. It was very scary.

There was this lady and she called herself a breeder, and she was selling what she considered “perfect Boston Terriers” as show dogs. I am not sure what a perfect Boston Terrier is or what a show dog is, but she told me I was no good and threw me in an outside pen. I lived outside with all the other throw away pups in all kinds of weather, and she gave us zero time, love or attention. Thankfully, authorities were informed, and Paws Give Me Purpose came to rescue us.

I was very lucky Paws Give Me Purpose came to my rescue, I was very small, thin, afraid, and covered in bugs. It’s just too scary to imagine what would have happened to me if they had never come to save me.

Thanks to enormous amounts of TLC and expert medical care at Paws Give Me Purpose, I stayed strong and fought my way back to health. They never gave up on me and I am extremely grateful.

I would love to say that I love all the people here at Paws Give Me Purpose, they are taking very good care of me. I have many fear issues due to my horrible past and suffer from seizures and major panic attacks, but they love me no matter my imperfections.

Before coming to the Sanctuary, I never knew a human touch, kindness, or what real love is. For the first time in my life I feel safe and loved. I love playing with all the pups here, large and small; I especially like the ladies. I love snuggling in blankets on the couch, being carried around like a baby and eating the homemade goodies they make here.

Due to my past, my emotional scars run deep, and my confidence has been destroyed, but I have been told by those who love me now that I am perfectly imperfect, and that they will never give up on me! Please don’t forget me and all the other sanctuary pups here. I am alive today because of wonderful supporters like you! I have a place to live where I am safe, people love me and treat me with kindness.

Thanks to the staff and volunteers at Paws Give Me Purpose, I truly have everything I need to live a full and happy life, but still need your prayers, love and support too.

In honor of my 8th birthday, please consider making a donation in order to help Paws Give Me Purpose continue to give myself and the rest of the Sanctuary pups the best life ever.

Help them continue their great work so they can help more pups just like me who are unwanted and have been tossed away that need a special place to live out their days feeling safe and loved.

Love, Lazarus

This Is Pancake

HAPPY NATIONAL PUG DAY!

This is Pancake.
Pancake is a Pug.
We rescued Pancake and his brother Waffles from a backyard breeder in New Jersey.
Dogs were stuffed into enclosures on top of one another struggling, crying and begging to get out.
Pancake was very sick, he was balding and suffered from eye ulcers; he was dragging his back leg.
We knew we had to get Pancake out of there.
The breeder didn’t want Pancake; she surrendered him to us for free, but we had to pay to save his brother.
We can only imagine what would have happened if we hadn’t taken him; the thought is too heartbreaking.
Pancake had Demodectic mange.
Pancake almost went blind.
Pancake received immediate medical attention.
Pancake was in a lot of pain.
Pancake never let his discomfort stop him.
Pancake came to Paws Give Me Purpose and we helped his body heal.
Pancake has the most resilient spirit.
He never lets anything get him down, he is always happy.
Paws Give Me Purpose was told to give up, Pancake could not be helped.
We never gave up on Pancake.
Pancake made a remarkable recovery.
Pancake learned to be a dog.
Pancake learned to trust.
Pancake learned that humans can love.
Pancake loves humans and dogs alike.
We never gave up on Pancake.
Pancake never gave up on us.
Pancake lives here at Paws Give Me Purpose and is part of our family.
Pancake has taught us many important life lessons.
To live in the moment, overcome fear with love, not hold grudges, and greet every day with optimism.
To play every day, jump for joy, to accept yourself, enjoy the journey, take time to relax, drink lots of water, take time to appreciate the small things, be loyal, dependable, and love unconditionally.
Today Pancake is almost 13 years old, has limited vision, and has lost the use of his back legs; yet he is still happy and enjoys his life to the fullest here in our Sanctuary.
Thank you Pancake for giving us purpose by showing us yours.
The very day we rescued Pancake, the Spirit of Paws Give Me Purpose was born.
Help us save other dogs like Pancake!
