Houston’s Progress

Tomorrow marks one week since Houston’s arrival here at Paws Give Me Purpose. He is slowly decompressing and just beginning to settle in and come out of his shell. We have even heard his barks for the first time today.

We have learned that he does have some fears and is a bit people selective. He likes walks, and takes leash correction easily. He enjoys pets and cuddling up to those individuals he feels comfortable with.

If he doesn’t seem to like you, he does growl a bit letting you know he’s uncomfortable and this is how dogs communicate warning you to step away. We have also been able to redirect him during these situations with ease.

In the next day or so, weather permitting, we will dog test him with another dog his own size to see how and if he can get along well with others.

We do feel that Houston can be a wonderful companion in the right home, but based on our brief observations we will be recommending an adult only home.

Stay tuned right here for more updates on Houston’s progress.

The First 72 Hours

Houston has been at Paws Give Me Purpose for about 72 hours and is slowly decompressing and learning the daily routine.

We have noticed he is very shy and fearful. He approaches with caution but is slowly warming up to those of us who are here full time.

Certain objects, quick movements and school busses passing by on our walk this morning caused some reactivity, but if calmly spoken to he will calm down.

Houston was sent to Paws Give Me Purpose by Yorkie911 Rescue, Inc with the hope that we can help evaluate, asses and work with him through his issues as well as determine his future adoptability. Should he not be a candidate for adoption, he will live out his life here in Sanctuary.

The original adopters returned him to the rescue citing anxiety and aggression toward the children and strangers coming to the home. It was simply too much for them to handle.

Houston has his own room here at Paws Give Me Purpose at the moment; when he feels overwhelmed, he will go to his own space to relax.

Once we feel Houston is ready we will slowly introduce him to new people and a couple other dogs in order to assess his status further.

Stay tuned for updates on this precious boy.

Making A Difference

ADOPTED!

After being rescued from Houston, Texas during Hurricane Harvey almost 2 years ago – Houston the dog has come to Paws Give Me Purpose.

Houston is around 25 pounds and is believed to be a Chihuahua Lab Mix. He is physically very fit, his vaccinations are up to date and he has been neutered.

We have been told that he’s a great dog – smart, loving, loyal, cuddly, house trained, and non-destructive.

Although his family loved him dearly, Houston struggles with anxiety due to his puppyhood trauma, and it was simply more than the family could handle.

His story touched our hearts so deeply, that we could not say no to helping this frightened little boy. But, we cannot do this without your support. Please help us help Houston, and stay tuned for more information on his journey.
