Last Chance For Love

We are not a big rescue and we don’t bring in the “big bucks”, but we do big things for the dogs that no one else stepped up to help during their time of need.

We give the abused, neglected and the most unwanted souls a life; a chance to be loved, cherished and to learn that not all humans are unkind – to us this is big!

When a senior, special needs, hospice case, or difficult to adopt dog is brought into a shelter, we are the one they call. When a rescue finds that one of the dogs they thought was adoptable needs a special place to spend the rest of their lives, we are the one they call.

For Waldo, Paws Give Me Purpose was his only chance. We were his last hope to be loved and cherished as he should have been his entire life. At a mere 12 pounds, learning to cope as a tripawd, Waldo has some great moments and some not so great moments, but that doesn’t matter to us.

It is difficult to watch him struggle at times, and it is difficult for him to understand exactly what has happened to him, but his resilience is amazing. We will make sure that no matter what and for however long he is with us he knows that his life matters, that he has value and that he is loved.

We are that special place where Waldo can take all the time he needs to heal mentally, physically and spiritually. We will make sure he receives the expert medical care he needs and deserves. We will make sure he knows how very special he is and how glad we are to have him here in our Sanctuary.

Waldo has already made some doggie friends, loves human attention, affection, and is truly one of the sweetest boys we have ever had come through our doors.

There is no place like Paws Give Me Purpose.

Waldo Update

Waldo was seen by our Veterinary team this morning and based on their thorough medical evaluation, it seems he is actually older than the original estimate. While it is difficult to really know for sure, our Veterinarians firmly believe he could not be any younger than 10, and even could be older.

Thanks to BARCS Franky Fund, Waldo has already had the necessary surgery to amputate his badly damaged leg, but he is dealing with more medical issues stemming from being hit by a car.

We cannot remove the staples at this time, as the surgical area is not healing the way it should. There is some extra dead skin in the area that will need to be surgically removed and his scrotum is extremely swollen as well. Waldo will need time to heal and this will delay his next surgery to remove the dead skin and be neutered for at least another month.

Waldo is also dealing with severe nuclear sclerosis of his eyes, horrible infected gums and bad teeth; a dental will be performed the same time as his neuter, but not until his body has had the chance to heal from the trauma of being hit by a car and of course the amputation.

Another major concern at this time is Waldo’s weight. He is extremely emaciated and has not been gaining weight. Although he has an amazing appetite, he continues to regurgitate after meals which was something the shelter was concerned with from the day of intake. Full blood work has been performed and we hopefully will have some answers soon.

To avoid further stomach upset, Waldo received a Convenia antibiotic injection and some Cerenia for nausea. We will also begin to feed Waldo in a more upright position to see if that helps with his much needed nutritional intake.

Stay tuned for further updates coming soon on Waldo’s condition.

In the meantime there is something to do, and the thing we actually hate doing the most, asking for money. Asking for money isn’t easy for anyone to do, but what is even more difficult is asking when so many are struggling themselves. In order to sustain operations and continue to help dogs in need, it is what we must do.

Like many of you out there, we are struggling. Rescue is difficult, and providing Sanctuary is even more difficult. The dogs that call Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary home came to us because no one else stepped up for them during their critical time of need. It is often a daunting task- and at times filled with heartache, but their lives matter.

We ask that you please open your hearts and send your most generous gift, no amount is too small.

Happy Birthday Spirit

Today was a very special day here at Paws Give Me Purpose for a dog who had a very uncertain future… Spirit celebrated her 8th Birthday surrounded by all her human and doggie friends here at the Sanctuary.

We believe a difficult dog always gives love back 10 times. Sometimes it may seem hopeless and we get frustrated more than we thought possible, bringing us to the edge of insanity… But once you persevere, the rewards are greater than words – just look at the happiness on her face.

This is what we do here at Paws Give Me Purpose, and moments like these is what makes all the struggle worth it!

Happy Birthday Spirit! We love you. May all your doggie wishes come true.
