A picture is said to be worth a thousand words, and this picture of Gertie should be all someone needs to understand that she deserved life.

The dogs that call Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary home came to us when no one else stepped up for them during their critical time of need. We give them the life they may otherwise have never had. Our promise to these beautiful souls is to provide a safe and loving environment for the rest of their lives. It is often a daunting task- and at times filled with heartache, but their lives matter!

We are NOT a big rescue, we are a very specialized rescue, but we do BIG things for the animals no one else stepped for. Giving the unwanted, abused, neglected, senior, hospice and special needs animals life for no matter how long they are with us is what makes Paws Give Me Purpose a special place.

No matter their age, special needs, or behavioral issues, they are living breathing animals just like us and they have value. Above all else, we at Paws Give Me Purpose put quality of life first, and these dogs deserve a chance at life, to know love, kindness and that not all humans are unkind before leaving this earth.

Over the past week Paws Give Me Purpose welcomed 3 new dogs into Sanctuary and we desperately need your help in order to help give them their second chance at the life they should have had all along. 

We are sadly seeing a very big increase in the abandonment of senior, special needs hospice dogs and we are inundated with requests seeking Sanctuary by shelters and rescues.

Today we would like to introduce you to Sassy; abandoned in horrible condition, we were alerted by our rescue partner Remember Me Rescue NY that this precious senior soul was in dire need of our help.  

When Sassy arrived at our Sanctuary, our team was on the verge of tears; her medical and emotional condition are simply beyond our comprehension, how could any human be so cruel?!

A mere 4 pounds, she was found wandering the streets of New York and was taken into the NYC ACC. She is very sad, defeated and has given up on life. 

Due to the horrible mistreatment and neglect, this tiny 13-year-old has suffered, we sadly know that her time with us will likely be short – but we also knew we could not allow her to die alone in the shelter. 

Her medical conditions include severe dental disease, nuclear sclerosis, alopecia and her back legs are so twisted outward and deformed that she will need to see our Orthopedic specialist.  

Sassy deserves love, dignity, respect, and we are going to make sure she receives everything she needs and deserves. Please help us fight to give her the opportunity to live the best life possible for no matter how long she is with us. We cannot do this without YOU!

It may be too late, and it’s not at all enough, but in the end we know that we are doing right by Sassy. Her life matters!
