Houston is in his forever home slowly decompressing, learning about his new environment and routine.
We have been in touch with his new dad daily to assist in whatever capacity is needed to make this a smooth transition and so far both Houston and his dad are making fabulous progress!
They are learning about each other, Houston has begun to come out of his shell and is certainly testing the limits. Dad has learned to redirect nicely, and Houston is starting to listen and respond to correction quickly. His dad mentioned to us that the 2 months of rehabilitation and behavior modification that Houston had while here with us are showing and it is definitely helping him to make progress quickly.
Although we are a Sanctuary and don’t often adopt out dogs, Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. stands behind any adoption that does take place and will always be there for Houston and his dad in whatever capacity is needed.
We honestly could not have asked for a better dad for Houston. He really needed a home where he was the only dog and someone that would devote the time, have the patience and give him the one on one attention that he really needs. We are SO glad they found each other!
We have often discussed our feelings about owner surrenders. Owner surrenders can be some of the most heartbroken dogs we see in the shelters. People don’t seem to understand or accept the reality for the surrendered pet, and what it does to them. And just when you think you have heard and seen it all when it comes to owner surrenders you are suddenly taken by surprise.
Meet Cindy! Surrendered to ACCT Philly by those she thought loved her. The shelter notes claim that the owner stated Cindy was panting heavily, having nightly seizures and they could no longer care for her.
Cindy is a 6 year old, 9 pound cutie who would have lost her life without the quick efforts of Yorkie911 Rescue to pull her to safety.
We cannot even describe our heartbreak when we first saw Cindy. Her fur was completely matted, she has sores all over her body, as well as lots of dirt and fleas. Her urine has traces of blood in it and she is clearly uncomfortable and breathing in distress. We have not observed any seizure activity at this time.
We honestly can understand that sometimes people have no choice but to surrender their beloved pet, but what we can’t wrap our head around is when we can visibly see that you obviously have been neglecting and mistreating your furry family member you claimed to love.
Cindy has no idea what it’s even like to be outside; she has started to enjoy the fresh air here at Paws Give Me Purpose, but just likes to sit or lay in the grass. She doesn’t know how to walk on a leash or potty in the grass; she only knows to use a wee wee pad indoors.
Today, Cindy is safe and has been properly groomed and treated for her skin issues. She will be heading to New York on Saturday to join all the other pups at Yorkie911 Rescue and once her medical needs are taken care of she will be available for adoption.
Until Cindy’s departure for New York we are showering her with lots of TLC, love and affection! She is enjoying homemade meals, treats, and it is very clear she loves to eat.
This girl is as SWEET AS PIE! and will not be waiting long trust us. If you’re interested in this sweetheart, get your application in quickly.
