Doing The Right Thing

Doing the right thing may not always be popular, but it is important to us!

We have taken a lot of criticism since the day we rescued this beautiful girl; we have been told to “put her out of her misery” and even accused of using her as a “poster child” to extort funds from the public. This is most certainly NOT the case!

Paws Give Me Purpose did everything possible to save Lucy’s eyes, but the long term damage caused by her former owners was just causing her extreme and unnecessary pain.

Above all else, we at Paws Give Me Purpose put quality of life first, and we could not let Lucy suffer. Enucleation of Lucy’s eyes was the treatment of last resort, when all previous attempts to salvage her eyes have failed.

For those not familiar, Lucy arrived at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary back in September after having being dumped at a shelter, severely neglected at 16 years of age. Her main medical issue was that she was blind, her eyes were damaged and diseased from years of neglect with severe glaucoma.

Her eye pressure was too high and was not controllable with medication and was causing her immense pain. In the case of glaucoma the pain is often comparable to having chronic migraines.

Lucy came to us because no one else stepped up to help her during her time of need. For 16, Lucy has lots of pep in her step and deserves this second chance to be happy, loved and cherished.

Our promise to Lucy is to provide a safe and loving environment for the rest of her life. If anyone ever doubts us, know that this is what we do at Paws Give Me Purpose.

We ask that you please consider making a donation to help us with Lucy’s care. If anyone is interested in sponsoring Lucy’s lifetime care in Sanctuary, please reach out to us directly.

Welcome Betty Boop

Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. has rescued animals that should have never let us touch them; we have held animals that stunk so bad you had to hold your breath to even get near them. We have been covered in blood as we held a dog telling them to fight through the pain, and we have gained the trust of dogs that could have taken a hand off.

We have watched miracles happen, and we have also held many as they took their last breath. We have held dogs and felt a pain run through our bodies that was so intense we could not move; all we could feel were the tears falling from our eyes.

As our rescuing continues, we welcome Betty Boop to Sanctuary. Betty is a 17-year-old girl who has lost the only family she has ever known. She was brought into the shelter by Animal Control after being left behind in her home upon her owner’s sudden and tragic passing.

This very fragile senior is lost, confused, and cries as she does not understand what has happened to her. She is a walking skeleton with a protruding spine, she is blind, and was covered in fleas at her intake. Her blood work and urine analysis revealed that she has renal disease, regenerative anemia, and thyroid issues. X-Rays have revealed an old spinal injury that never healed properly, causing her spine to protrude, hunching her over when she walks.

We made sure Betty received the immediate emergency care she needed and we have begun giving her the proper medications, supplements and diet in order to help her heal. She will continue to receive the expert care she needs and deserves!

Betty is not in any physical pain, but it is evident she has been seriously neglected for a long time, and her spirit has been broken. It goes without saying that we will do whatever is necessary to help Betty feel her best to be the happiest and most comfortable she can be.

Our promise to Betty is to provide her with a safe and loving environment for the rest of her life and we are committed to keeping this promise.

We are not going to mince words here, but our bills at both our ER Vet Hospital and our regular Veterinarians office are astronomical! This is all due to the nature of the kind of work we do. We have limited time to pay all of these bills off — we need your help, and we need it now!

While we hate to continue to ask for money, we know that in order to sustain operations and help these dogs, it is what we must do.

We ask that you please open your hearts and send your most generous gift to help us with their urgent medical care. No amount is too small.
